PLTW - Engineers wanted to give back Clarence and Lancaster in 1997 In response to the need for engineers

3 The History of Engineering in Lancaster
PLTW first class in One classroom - 11 sections 36th school in the world to be in the program Today there are 1000s of schools

4 Current Engineering in Lancaster
Total of 12 Technology Teachers Gateway has been added for 7th and 8th grades 2 middle school teachers trained in Gateway and are teaching to 7th and 8th graders. Trades Academy

5 Current Engineering in Lancaster
Project Lead the Way, at the HS level, has more than 350 students taking classes Students are earning transcript credit through RIT Considered better qualified for engineering classes and are able to finish undergraduate school in four years

6 Why Teach Engineering in Elementary School?
Everyone is exposed - helps to eliminate the mystery. Gets girls involved before they start to think it’s a male field. Problem solving and persistence.

7 5th Grade Introduction to Technology 2013
Course Structure 20 weeks / 3 days per week Project Based Learning Built Course around MS and HS Technology/PLTW Courses.

Worked with Science Committee and used Science Standards to supplement 5th grade classroom teachers. Mostly Simple Machines and Electricity
