Welcome to Photoshop 102 Henry Norton 29 January 2018
This template can be used as a starter file for presenting training materials in a group setting. Sections Right-click on a slide to add sections. Sections can help to organize your slides or facilitate collaboration between multiple authors. Notes Use the Notes section for delivery notes or to provide additional details for the audience. View these notes in Presentation View during your presentation. Keep in mind the font size (important for accessibility, visibility, videotaping, and online production) Coordinated colors Pay particular attention to the graphs, charts, and text boxes. Consider that attendees will print in black and white or grayscale. Run a test print to make sure your colors work when printed in pure black and white and grayscale. Graphics, tables, and graphs Keep it simple: If possible, use consistent, non-distracting styles and colors. Label all graphs and tables.

Adobe Camera Raw ACR This is another option for an Overview slides using transitions.
8
ACR Intro Can open JPG, Tiffs, RAW files, but not PS files
ACR whether in PS or LR should be an integral part of your work flow Developer Most basic setting allow you to adjust white balance, exposure, highlights, black and shadow levels, vibrance and saturation

Image Tab Tools
14
Adjustment Tools Intro
Most tools in the image tab can be accessed by selecting Adjustments- IMAGE/Adjustments/ Brightness/Contrast, Levels (Ctrl +L), Curves (Ctrl +M), Exposure, Vibrance, Hue/Saturation (Ctrl +U), Color Balance (Ctrl +B), Black & White, Photo Filter, Channel Mixer, Color Lookup, Invert (Ctrl +I), Posterize, Threshold, Gradient Map, Selective Color, Shadows & Highlights, HDR Toning, Desaturate (Shift+Ctrl+U), Match Color, Replace Color, Equalize
15
Adjustment Tools Most useful tools Brightness/Contrast- Levels
Basic 2 sliders for Brightness/Contrast, plus Auto Levels Allows for levels in RGB or channels 9 Presets Increased contrasts- 3 settings, darker, lighten shadows, lighter, midtones darker, midtones lighter, custom (user set) White and Black points setting Exposure Exposure, Plus or minus Offset- controls blacks Gamma Correction- midtone range, plus or minus
16
Adjustment Tools Most useful tools Vibrance Color Balance
2 Basic sliders for vibrance & saturation Color Balance HSL for 3 zones shadows, midtones, highlights Legacy work tool, but quick & easy Black & White Converts color images to B&W Retains RGB Color Space 14 Presets- do not mimic films, but color filters & infrared Has Tint function to adjust overall look Able to adjust image + or – in luminance for colors
17
Adjustment Tools Most useful tools Shadows and Highlights
Sliders to adjust luminance values for shadows or highlights Tonal adjustments- Controls the range of tones in the shadows or highlights that are modified. Smaller values restrict the adjustments to the darker regions for shadow correction and the lighter regions for highlight correction. Larger values increase the range of tones that are adjusted further into the midtones. Too large a value may introduce halos around dark or light edges. Radius Controls the size of the local neighborhood around each pixel. Neighboring pixels are used to determine whether a pixel is in the shadows or highlights. Moving the slider to the left specifies a smaller area, and moving it to the right specifies a larger area. The optimum local neighborhood size depends on the image. It’s best to experiment with the adjustment. If the radius is too large, the adjustment tends to brighten (or darken) the whole image rather than brightening the subject only. It’s best to set the radius to roughly the size of the subjects of interest in the image. Color Adjust the saturation of colors Midtones Adjusts contrast of Midtones Black and White Clip Specifies how greatly the shadows and highlights are clipped to the new extreme shadow (level 0) and highlight (level 255) colors in the image. Larger values produce an image with greater contrast. Be careful not to make the clipping values too large, because doing so reduces detail in the shadows or highlights (the intensity values are clipped and rendered as pure black or pure white).
18
Adjustment Tools Most useful tools HDR Toning
18 presets, definitely one of the more tricky tools to use correctly Best way to start is to use local adaption in the Method Window, gradually adjust the shadows – highlights to brighten or darken the image. For Edge glow view your image at 100% or greater then bring up radius and strength to see the changes. Edge Glow- adds halos around objects, especially in areas of high contrast
