5 Organisation and Planning
Throughout the holiday all students will be allocated to a member of staff who will be their main point of contact. They will help the students with regards to travel throughout the journey, on-route stops, ferry crossing etc. The staff group leader will check that the skiers are ready to hit the slopes each day with all of their equipment They will be responsible for their well-being and ensuring that they are coping with the challenges that the holiday will bring. The staff will also monitor the rooms, checking that they are tidy and safe. The more organised the students are, the easier the holiday is for them

6 Setting Standards Staff will also monitor the conduct of the students. The expectations are no different to being in school. I am not anticipating any issues but if there are, I will be contacting the Principal and parents to inform them prior to us leaving Austria. All students will be expected to eat in the dining room at meal times. Students will need to fuel-up as energy will be used very quickly, especially if there are very cold conditions Students will be expected to be on time Night time is for sleep 7.00am alarm or earlier is for getting up not rolling over for another snooze!

15 Ski School - Instructors
Only National Ski School instructors are employed. All instructors are fully qualified and have an intimate knowledge of the ski area and safety procedures. 5 hours instruction per day 1 hour supervised break for lunch

16 Clothing for Skiing It is essential that all of the skiers are adequately dressed for the conditions. Last year the average temperatures at Alpendorf were 3˚C down to -4˚C – but it could be colder – equally it can also be warmer Salzburg however could be very warm! – previous experience has given us a very hot day 24°C The clothing list will give a good indication as to what is required on the snow. SNOW UNION is our recommended hire company. They have served us well over many years and their clothing is suitable for all conditions. The brochure will help when sourcing clothing. If you choose to purchase or hire any clothing the orders must be placed by Sunday 4th February. All purchases and hire equipment will be delivered prior to the Easter holidays. Any student who has hired equipment will be expected to try it on for fit. Mark from Snow Union will oversee this in school.

17 Clothing for Skiing

18 Ski Essentials Students must be physically fit enough to fully take part in the holiday. It will be very busy with early mornings, active days and entertaining evenings. Students must ensure that they have sufficient rest so they are ready to fully participate – sleep at every opportunity! Tired students risk having their lift pass taken off them until a member of staff and their ski instructor are satisfied that their safety and the safety of others is not compromised All students must follow the instructions of their group leader and ski instructor throughout the holiday Each morning before leaving for the slopes every student will check to ensure that they have everything they need for the day. Students will never be allowed to ski unsupervised and skis will not be worn until directed by the ski instructor

19 Insurance and Injury The whole of the group is insured through IBT Travel In order to provide you with maximum peace of mind, we work as an appointed representative of NC Stirling Insurance Brokers (Financial Conduct Authority registration number ) to provide you with travel insurance that covers your group’s participation on the slopes and your tour’s optional extras. The insurance policy matches the requirements set by most LEAs with our standard policy including the following cover: Cancellation or curtailment - up to £3000 Emergency medical expenses - up to £5 million Personal accident - up to £25,000 Missed departure - up to £1000 (in Europe £500) Piste closure – up to £120 Personal baggage - up to £1,500 (under 18s £500) Ski equipment – up to £400 Personal money - up to £400 (under 18s £250) Personal liability - up to £2 million Organiser’s liability - up to £5 million Legal advice and expenses - up to £25,000.

20 In the event of…… An accident or injury on the slopes, it will be firstly assessed by the ski instructor. If necessary they will call for support from the medical team which may require the need for a ski-doo The students will be brought to the medical room at the bottom of the slope and the extent of the injury further assessed All hire equipment will be checked If the student requires hospital care then they will be accompanied by a member of staff Once further information is available – I contact you and inform you of the circumstances/outcome Students will be asked not be allowed to contact home as this can cause unnecessary stress as all of the facts may not be known

22 Ski Day at Swadlincote Ski Centre
I have booked a Learn to Ski Activity Day at Swadlincote Ski Centre on Monday 19th February It is a good opportunity to try boots and skis for the first time The day costs £15.50 and includes ski tuition, tobogganing or tubing and lunch. It is from 9.45am until 2.00pm Payment will be via Wisepay. Full details are on the letter in the envelope. I need to confirm numbers by Friday 2nd February so if the slip can be brought in for my attention, this will help with the planning. It is a great way of meeting other students who are also skiing. I strongly advise that students do not ski after February in case of injury and jeopardising their holiday.

23 Finally! Please remember to order any hire equipment or purchases before Sunday 4th February Ensure final balance is paid by January 26th. Photocopies of the Passport and ESTA will needed in March – a reminder will be given to the students Staffordshire Residential Form will need to be completed and returned in March – week beginning March 5th.
