The type of material of PD catheter Catheters are made either of polyurethane or silicone rubber Exit-site, antibiotic prophylaxis – either mupirocin or gentamicin - may damage polyurethane catheters Know what the catheter that is used at your center is made of; make sure to completely avoid polyurethane catheters *

Postoperative Care Always wash your hands always secure the catheter do not pull or twist never use scissors near the catyheter exit site care should be dond daily

Postoperative Care some patients do not use dressings- patient's choice Ensure built-in clamp is closed whten extension tube is not in use Ensure the white cap at the tip of the extension tube is securely connected. Tape catheter down to skin

Postoperative Care Never use scissors near catheter Never use any clamping device to clamp catheter (except emergency) Never use alcohol, adhesive remover or other solvent on catheter Ensure catheter and adaptor are tightly connected after every exchange
