Dignity How would you feel if someone was cross with you for being ‘difficult’ because you felt unwell?

Competence Regular observation of patient
Taking every opportunity to identify and mitigate risks to patients Preventing pressure ulcers Preventing falls Preventing VTEs Preventing catheter-related infections Staff ask patient if they can move position.2. Falls – asking if need toilet, making sure all within reach.3. Movement, no pressure on areas, passive exercises. Fuids.Toilet, catheters, fluids. Red jugs.

Communication Regular communication with patient
Enhancing the comfort of the patient Decreasing the anxiety of the patient Make them feel valued Non verbal – gentle approach Communicate – don’t read out a list. 2. Observe patient carefully – some patients don’t like to be a bother. 3. Informally risk assess the situation.4. If this patient was the person you love most – would there be anything else you could do to enhance her comfort?5. Anxiety? When will nurse come again? Am I being a nuisance? Hold hands
