Cheer Tryouts 8th Grade

Cheer February 22-25; 26th-if needed
Sign in on Monday at 4:45 in the North Gym at CJHS. Practice will last until 6:30 Tuesday-Wednesday Practice time: 5:00-6:30 Thursday: Tryout time will be announced. Friday-if needed only Tryout numbers for contestants who make the team will be posted on the North Gym door by 10 p.m. on Friday, February 26

Tryout Information All practices in the North Gym at the corner of Duncan and Mitchell Streets Must be picked up by 6:30 P.M. Monday- Wednesday. Thursday –to be announced. No more than two absences Incomplete or missing forms = No participation If concussion, consent and physical forms are on file for this year, there is NO need to complete these forms and turn them in again.

What should I wear? Blue shorts
White sleeved shirts (no tanks or camis by themselves) Sports bra Athletic/Cheer shoes Hair pulled back in a ponytail; bangs out of face No bows

Grooming Hair should be a natural color. Pink/lt. blue etc. are not natural colors. No jewelry No nails beyond fingertip length. No new piercings before tryouts, camp, cheer season. No jewelry should be worn or brought to tryouts or practice. Jewelry worn will have to be removed for practice and tryouts.

How much time is involved?
Year-long class. Attendance at games and events is required. If non-school activities will prevent you from attending these, do not try out. Approximately 40 games All Blue and White Football and Basketball home games. Games are not optional. Cheer clinic in May after school Steak Out-August Faulkner County Fair Parade-September Basketball Madness-November Pep Assembly-TBA

Games We cheer at all home games for blue and white 8th grade teams for football. Football games typically start at 5:30. We cheer at all home games for blue and white 8th grade teams for basketball (boys and girls) Basketball games typically start at 5:00 and some start at 4:30. Attendance is required. Girls must arrive on time and be picked up promptly after games Coaches are not allowed to transport students anywhere

Cost for Personal Items
Approximately $300 Items to be purchased MAY consist of shoes, poms, windsuit, bag, and bows depending on cost Extra items that some may want include rainsuit, cheer socks, etc. Cheer: personal/Varsity items must be paid for at fittings in May (Money order or credit card) It is important that all girls have the same uniform and look like a team. Team items should not be worn by anyone other than the cheerleader.

Athletics Cheer is considered a school sport and part of the Athletic Department. Team members are expected to be in physical shape for athletic participation. Physical conditioning is part of team sports. When basketball season is over, off-season cheer conditioning will be an everyday class expectation. Athletes work out!

Behavioral Expectations
Cheer and Dance teams represent Conway Junior High and these team members will be expected to demonstrate leadership and act as role models for our school. Respect for Coaches and teammates is expected at all times whether on or off campus/during school hours or non-school hours.

-Continued Expectations
Harassment or bullying of teammates or other students is strictly forbidden. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, or other social media sites should not be used to gossip or make suggestive, derogatory, or harassing comments about anyone. Poor attitudes/behaviors will prevent stunting for cheer. Stunting can be very dangerous and only teams that work together will stunt. Poor attitudes/behaviors could result in benching or removal from the team.
