IDENTITY Throughout history and across cultures, people have been concerned with IDENTITY. KEY CONCEPTS: Identity . . . involves characteristics (physical, emotional, psychological) that distinguish people, places, and things. expresses who we “are” to others and can, therefore, be read. can be assumed or imposed. can be expressed and communicated through art. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What is identity? How is identity expressed to/read by others? When/How/Why might identity be assumed or imposed?

Photo 1/8 Find, photograph, edit (no filters, please), and post ONE photo for the following prompt: select a WALL SPACE in or around your current home or dwelling, and capture its IDENTITY. The possibilities are endless – ranging from a very dramatic memento, occupying a wall in a high-traffic area, to a very private token, secreted into a discrete wall space of a less-trafficked room, etc.
7
PHOTOS 2-5/8 Find, photograph, edit, and post FOUR photos for the following prompt: Locate one INTERESTING OBJECT with plenty of negative space around it that has a sense of IDENTITY—you may stage something. Please post ONE image without using any photography filters. Explore at THREE FILTERS on the same photograph (remember to save your original first) using the Instagram app, iPhoto, or something similar. Learn more about filters here. For your consideration: How do these filters CHANGE THE OBJECT’S IDENTITY?

Original Sepia Antique Boost The ‘original’ photograph seems to best capture the mood of the Panamanian wall mural. It’s important to me to honor the skin color represented by the painter, as this helps to capture the identity of the subject pictured.
