Latitude the angular distance North and South of the Equator
Basis: Polaris Main Reference Latitude: Equator Line of Latitude are called parallels

Longitude The main reference line for longitude is the Prime Meridian (0o). Located through the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, England Basis: Time Lines of Longitude are called meridians.

How do we find Longitude?
GMT = 12:00 pm Local Time = 2:00 pm Longitude? 2 hrs x 15o/hr = 30o E

How do we find Longitude?
GMT = 12:00 pm Local Time = 9:00 am Longitude? 3 hrs x 15o/hr = 45o W

How do we find Longitude?
Longitude = 60o E Local Time = 3:00pm Time in Greenwich? 60o/ 15o/hr = 4 hr difference 11:00 AM
