NEW Behavior Log is filled out for 10/10/16
Copied Objective, HW into assignment list WARM-UP: What do you want to learn about how natural events occur? (Like gravity or electricity or light?) What could be a rule to describe how or why objects stop or go?
2
Mantra - Your Turn! Today is a great day for science because:
Science is power. We are powerful because: We always make a difference.
3
This Week… All good things must come to an end And so while we say goodbye to chemistry, Know that it’s role is always to lend Some understanding of how things work around you and me But so too does our next unit, Where physics tells the tale bit by bit Of how things move and share energy - The interactions around you and me
4
Goals * State the Objective(s)/Standard (s)- RI 7.3; W2; Sci 2f
* State the Purpose (Big Idea) -SWBAT explain how objects move by using multiple descriptors (speed, velocity, acceleration) and apply kinematic problem solving skills to solve problems in real life situations as told in a pick-your-path-story. SWBAT Understand, Compare, and Apply Newton's Laws to energy flow in life and relationships, as well as physics
5
Agenda I Do: Vocabulary/forces /Newton’s Laws
We Do: Discussion Questions You Do: Check for Understanding You Do: Newton’s Video Notes Summary/ Feedback/ Questions
6
Intro. to Physics - Vocab
Physics- "knowledge of nature”; Study of matter and its motion through space and time, along with related concepts such as energy and force. What’s the purpose or motivation for studying or pursuing physics? What could be a potential struggle in studying it?
7
Intro. to Physics – People
Newton, Galileo, Einstein, Hawking, Cooper?
8
Intro. to Physics – Main Ideas
Motion: Everything in the universe moves!! How? Force: Any interaction that, when not challenged, will change the motion/speed of an object… (including beginning to move from rest) Example: Pulling, what else? Energy flow!! – Changed or moved by never destroyed! Motion Electrical Magnetic Waves Simple Machines and other influences
9
Turn and Talk… Why do you think it took scientists so long to figure out how these things work? Why do you think it took so long for that information to be shared?
10
Intro. to Physics – Forces
Gravity Friction Applied Tension Normal Magnetic Electrical
11
Newton’s Laws in your own words…
1. Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. Essentially Galileo's "Law of Inertia“
12
Newton’s Laws in your own words…
2. The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
13
Newton’s Laws in your own words…
3. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. In every interaction, there is a pair of forces acting on the two interacting objects. The size of the forces on the first object equals the size of the force on the second object.
14
Turn and Talk… How does all this “energy talk” relate to us right now?
Practice Packets and Reflections Scattered lab activities How can we apply Newton's 3rd law to how we treat others and put effort into this class?
15
Newton's Laws Video Collecting Notes from the film
Collecting Notes from the film I’ll look for at least 7 details Completed main ideas chart… Extra Credit to finish watching/summarize if we do not watch all of it
16
MAIN IDEAS INTERACTIONS
1. Newton had a tough childhood 1. How does Newton’s childhood seem to influence his career? 2. 2. How are speed and distance related? 3. Gravity on Earth and in space 3. What is the connection between… 4.
17
Last Items/ Questions HW:
Write and decorate your first reflections about Science and what it means to you. Minimum of 7 complete sentences and 2-3 pieces of evidence. Make your balloon car by Wednesday! More HW coming this week!!! Think about your progress and effort in Units 1 & 2 for Reflection/Celebration once grades are back Need Physics help or want to talk about your grades? Office Hours Saturday, 12-1 at T.B.A.
18
Connections Friday Volunteers
Look around the house or try to think of objects that use simple machines OR Explain how a sport you love may need to use physics to explain how it works
19
GO GO FEEDBACK FRONTIER!
Miss K – In my baggie (Comments on my teaching, living up to my goals, and any personal things you need to privately tell me) Your peers – Feedback to 1 or 2 people… What is something you saw him/her do that matched up with our class values? Why was it really great to see this?
