1. A beginners guide to revision; you’ll never say ‘I can’t revise’ again

2. How do you revise?
Write down 3 things you do to revise.

3. Firstly: it is important start revising early
Cramming in the days before your exam out does not work. You need to revise little and often.

4. Take short breaks
You need a break at least every hour (but not every 10 minutes) otherwise it will be overwhelming.

5. Stick revision notes up
Stick up posters and cards with key quotations, facts and information around the house.

6. Look, cover, write, check
Revise something. Then cover it and test yourself. Then go back to it a few days later.

7. Don’t just re-read things
You need to write them out or say them aloud. You could record yourself or teach things to a friend.

8. Create acronyms to help you remember skills and content
For example, for the word MACBETH you could memorise a different quotation for each letter.

9. Quiz yourself
Instead of just writing things out, create quizzes whilst looking over your notes. Test yourself, then revisit your quiz a few days later.

10. Repetition
Repeating things is a proven way of building our memory retention. Repeat phrases and words either on paper or out loud.

11. Flash cards
Create flashcards and test yourself or get others to test you. Include images on your cards to build your memory through association.

12. Mind-maps/Venn diagrams
Create detailed mind-maps for each text or Venn diagrams to compare poems. Try to create them from memory, then add to them using books/notes/videos.

13. Practise GCSE style questions
Answer past papers or create your own exam style questions.
