Used to quantify the problem by generating numerical data
Explores common or shared experiences to uncover trends in a problem
Combines qualitative and quantitative to best understand research problem
Includes experimental, correlation, or survey research
Includes grounded, ethnographic, or narrative research
Includes action research
Facilitator: provide an overview of the flowchart. Facilitator gives non-education examples of each to deepen participants understanding.
Participants will read the flowchart and turn and talk: which which type of research appeals to you and why. If you were going to do quantitative research, what types of problems would you be addressing; qualitative?
After 10 minutes of discussion, ask for an idea from each table.
The purpose is to check in with participants to see what they know and understand and what questions they have.
