Who were they and why did they become nuns?

2. Nuns were always women! Women became nuns and men became monks.
A bunch of nuns lived together in a placed called an Abbey.
The head nun is called an Abbess.
Nuns never get married or have babies.

3. In Medieval times, nuns and monks lived in Egypt!
To be away from everyone else, nuns and monks often moved to Eygpt…the middle of nowhere…to be alone so they could concentrate on praying to God.
There are still nuns today but they live closer to people and sometimes you see them at the grocery store!
