1 Module 2.5.7 – Unit 5.6.4 Implications of ICT
E – discuss the ways in which ICT assists decision making at managerial and executive level through MIS, Decision Support Systems and Video Conferencing

2 MIS – Management Information System
Computers are generally used to perform routine tasks. A MIS is designed to make use of the computers power of selection and analysis to produce management information. Help monitor and control organisational performance Plan for the future Gather intelligence of competitors activities Analyse sales data Highlight trends A MIS is usually based on the use of databases

3 Decision Support Systems - DDS
A DDS is more flexible in decision making than a MIS. A MIS provides information in an anticipated pre-defined form. This means managers cannot make ad-hoc requests for information. With a DDS parameters can be altered to analyse responses to events (sales, advertising, etc) Examples of DDS are spreadsheets and relational database management systems such as Access.

4 Video Conferencing Make savings in staffing, travel and accommodation costs Allows the discussion to take place on neutral territory All individuals are alert and not jetlagged Training may be necessary to use the equipment and also etiquette and techniques which are needed for effective use of the medium Provides new employment opportunities in production sale and installation of equipment as well as in support and training services
