2. Neuromuscular junction of a patient with the slow-channel syndrome.
A prolonged opening time of the acetylcholine receptor ion channel causes increased calcium influx leading to destruction of postsynaptic juntional folds (*). To the left a nerve terminal is seen overlying normal folds.
