3 Duties of Citizens Obey laws Pay taxes Defend the Nation
The law requires most male citizens aged 18 to 25 to register with the Selective Service System (SSS) In the event of war or extreme national emergency, the government may need to draft, or call for military service men from this list Service on Juries Attend Schools Ages 7 to 16

4 Responsibilities of Citizens
Be an informed and active citizen VOTE Respect the rights of others Tolerance: respecting and accepting others, regardless of their beliefs, practice, or differences Contribute to the Common Good Community service

5 Being Involved By volunteering, we make our communities better places to live and learn valuable skills Active citizens care about the welfare of their community Welfare: the health, prosperity, and happiness of the members of a community Donating time and money Volunteerism: the practice of offering your time and services to others without receiving payment America has a long history of volunteering Over 1 million charities

6 Being Involved National Service Programs
Corporation for National and Community Service Provides money, training, and other help for volunteer groups AmeriCorps - meet community needs, helps victims of natural disasters, cleans polluted rivers, and assists disabled people Senior Corps – volunteer opportunities for Americans 55 and older Peace Corps – advises farmers, teaches children, starts small businesses, and fights serious diseases worldwide
