Mrs. Day 6th year of teaching
All in 5th grade at Crossroads Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from NKU Master’s degree in reading and writing at Northern Kentucky University. Teaches reading language arts

Mr. Franzen Second year teaching in Campbell County.
Taught 5th grade for two years at Saints Peter and Paul in California, Ky Coaches basketball at Covington Catholic Teaches Math

Mrs. Klopp First year teaching in Campbell County
Taught 11 years in Dayton, Kentucky 12th year of teaching (4th, 5th , 6th grades) Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and Master’s degree from Northern Kentucky University Teaches dance at Dance Express in Ft. Thomas Teaches math

Mrs. Poor 20th year in education, fourth year teaching 5th grade
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Master’s Degree in Library Science – both from Eastern Kentucky University National Board Certification in Literacy, 2009 Teaches reading language arts

DARE The fifth grade participates in the DARE program. This 10 week program will begin after Fall Break. Dare Graduation will be sometime during mid to late January.

Conservation Classes The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife provides the fifth graders with 5-6 sessions that will teach students about the wild life native to Kentucky, as well as other topics related to outdoor activities.

Weekly Newsletter Each week we will send home a newsletter and Reading Log on Friday. This packet will be due on the following Thursday. The Reading Log will be graded.

Regular Nightly Homework
Read for 30 minutes. Practice Multiplication Facts WITH AN ADULT for 10 minutes. Review Social Studies notes for 10 minutes.

Accelerated Reader Goals
Individualized goals each trimester (Point and Average Percent Correct goals) Nightly Reading = AR Goal MET Students who do not meet their 1st Trimester AR goals will have a reading assignment for homework each night of the 2nd Trimester (and lowered point goals).

Spontaneous Homework Sometimes spontaneous homework will also be sent home; this could happen on any night. Usually this happens when something was not completed during the day as classwork. The teacher will have the students write in their planner when it is due.

Students need you to teach them how to study.
These kids are learning how to study. They need an adult at home to help them figure out what method works best for them. Some possibilities: Making and practicing flash cards Reading and re-reading notes and study guides Practice problems for math Parent – child quizzing regularly

Teacher Websites Visit for extra copies of the newsletters or reading logs, math practice websites, and links to other content.

Corrections Math and Social Studies Tests Students have the opportunity to complete a wrong answer analysis for each incorrect answer to earn half credit on corrected test questions. 100% – 93% = A 92% - 85% = B 84% - 73% = C 72% - 65% = D 64% or below = F

Point based system Students earn points for going above 5th grade expectations Students lose points for not following 5th grade expectations and procedures

Class Dojo Parent report comes home on Monday.
If the report needs to be signed it will be noted on the report and due the next day.

CHAMPs CHAMPs is a school wide behavior expectations system.
There are CHAMPs for all of the common areas. (cafeteria, restrooms, hallways, assemblies) We have developed CHAMPs procedures for whole group learning, small group learning and lining up for our classrooms. CHAMPs procedures will reviewed frequently.

Field Trips Parents and guardians must have a current volunteer card on file in the office to chaperone field trips. Please check to find out when it expires; cards obtained when your child was in kindergarten should be expiring this year. Chaperones are not needed for all field trips.

How families can prepare for Middle School NOW:
Come prepared for class EVERYDAY day (notebooks, homework, textbooks, planner and home folder) Complete homework planner and have it signed daily (Monday-Friday) Review class notes and discuss each evening Review weekly behavior report and discuss as needed
