What are the three different types of characters? There are four different conflicts, name two of them? *Extra Credit* Name a conflict and then give an example of the conflict.

3 Elements of a Story Setting
-The time and location in which a story takes place is called the setting. a.)Place-geographical location b.)Time-when is the story taking place? C.)Weather Conditions-is it rainy, sunny, stormy, etc? D.) Social Conditions- What is the daily life of the characters like? E.) Mood or atmosphere- What feeling is created at the beginning of the story?

4 Characters Elements of a Story
-The person and or people in a work of fiction. Persons in a work of fiction -Protagonist-main character of story -Antagonist- opposer of the main characters

5 Elements of a story Characters
-Individual- round, many sided and complex -Developing- dynamic, many sided personalities that change, for better or worse, by the end of the story. -Static- flat, stereotype, have one or two characteristics that never change and are emphasized as brilliant detective, drunk, scrooge, cruel stepmother.

-is how the author arranges events to develop his basic idea; it is the sequence of events in a story or play. -has a very clear beginning, middle, and end. 5 key elements of a plot -Introduction -Rising Action -Climax -Falling Action -Resolution

7 Elements of a story Conflict
-Every story has a conflict to solve. Conflict is essential to plot. Four kinds of Conflict -Man vs Man -leading character struggles against other men, forces, nature, or animals. -Man vs Circumstances -leading character struggles against fate, circumstances of life -Man vs Society -leading character struggles against ideas, practices, or customs of other people. -Man vs himself/herself -leading character struggles with himself/herself

8 -the way the action is resolved.
Elements of a Story Resolution -the way the action is resolved. -Resolution fits the rest of the story in tone and creativity and solve all parts of the conflict.

9 Other Elements to look for in a story:
-Theme -Controlling idea or central insight. The author’s underlying meaning or main idea he he is trying to convey. Common themes: -Love is blind -things are not always as they appear to be -Believe in yourself -People are afraid of change -Don’t judge a book by its cover

10 Other Elements to look for in a story:
Point of View: is defined as the angle from which the story is told. Types of POV: -Innocent Eye: story told through the eyes of a child -Stream of Consciousness: story told so that the reader feels as if they are inside the head of the character. -First person: story told by the protagonist using words I, me, we, Etc. -Omniscient: author narrates the story using POV. Moving from character to character, event to event.
