Electronic configuration
ASPG students will differentiate between atomic mass and atomic number and explain the relationship of the atomic number, the number of protons and the element’s identity. Learning objectives: By the end of the lesson students should be able to: State that electrons are found in shells around the nucleus Understand that each shell can hold up to a certain number of electrons Draw and write the electronic configuration of the first 20 elements
3
Electronic configuration
Recap: What charge does an electron have? Where are electrons found in an atom?
4
Representing an electron
OR X
5
Electron Arrangement We can find out the number of electrons in each atom from the PERIODIC TABLE
6
Electron arrangement example
Sodium(Na) has 11 electrons Draw and write the electronic configuration of sodium.
