Good morning and thank you for allowing me to share some time with you in regards to the Biology EOC. I am Allen Wilson and I am an Instructional Coach with the Science Dept.

Data Comparisons Measured at different performance standards 37% to 39% 2 additional items If passing standard was at 37% performance would have been at 79% * First Time 9th Graders Possible explanations for the decrease – Students had to answer 2 more questions correctly as compared to last year: 39% (21 correct v. 19 correct) compared to 37% When the 564 students under unsatisfactory are recalculated with last year’s standard there would have been a 4% increase (80 students) in the number of students meeting standard. With the change in PD we did not have the full day pull-outs that we have had in the past

Biology EOC Standards Breakdown
Students NEED 21items Use this so that the principals can get a quick refresher on the make-up of the Biology EOC exam. Give them 30 seconds to See… Scan… Analyze before asking questions. Although we know that over 70% of students will meet the MET Standard it will NOT suffice for final and advanced
5
2016 1st Time 9th Grade Met Standard @ 39% = 75% Moving to 43% = 65%
61% = 26% Thinking proactively – next marker at 43% only 65% of the students would have met standard. 1st time 10th grade met standard at 56% students passed N = 2246

IPC Findings 10th Grade made up of LEP = 31% & SPED = 22%
ALL Student Performance Met Standard % Passing 9th Grade 2242 1678 75% 10th Grade 301 169 56% NOT in SPED (2358) 2112 1631 77% 229 164 72% LEP (338) 238 114 49% 92 43 47% SPED (N=207) 135 48 36% 72 22 31% Non-SPED made up 78% of the 10th grade population 10th Grade made up of LEP = 31% & SPED = 22% Moved struggling students who had NOT passed STAAR 8th grade into the IPC course to delay the Biology test and provide opportunity for success in 2 of 3 9th grade tests Less than 10% of students moved 53% were LEP and SPED; all SPED who passed 8th grade science with a modified test moved to Biology Research on maturity (Hattie Data Analysis) was the purpose for implementation Data shows NO improvement in LEP and SPED whether they participated in Biology or IPC Use information to decide future IPC enrollment for first time 9th graders Findings show that improvement was made for NON-SPED students, especially for 137 NON SPED and LEP
