2. NAPs as of today Articles of the Convention: NAPs today:
Article 5: establish strategies and priorities within the framework of sustainable development Article 9: As appropriate, prepare, make public and implement National Action Programmes – interlinked with other efforts to formulate national policies for sustainable development. Article 10: Purpose of NAPs: (i) identify factors contributing to desertification (ii) identify practical measures NAPs today: 100+ countries have a NAP Close to 70 countries have a NAP aligned with the 10 year strategy Many aligned NAPs pre-dating current global commitments (SDGs, Paris Agreement, Sendai Framework, Bonn Challenge) 2015 evaluation of NAPs effectiveness: NAPs are “too often treated as a document that states are obliged to produce with few tangible benefits on the ground”

3. LDN as of today Targets: 110 countries committed to set a target
More than 60 countries set targets and validated national LDN baselines Leverage and impact: More than 60 countries have established a leverage plan = Identifying entry points to increase impact

4. Lessons learned from the LDN target setting
First time countries with validated baselines and time-bound targets. Countries connecting the dots between voluntary LDN targets and climate (NDC), biodiversity, and restoration commitments. Countries putting LDN in their national SDG context. LDN targets provide opportunity for focused and prioritized action. Where available, LDN target setting builds on NAPs
