For example, AFOSR regularly reviews and assesses its basic research portfolio with panels composed of peer groups, laboratory management, Service and DoD leadership; and well-established subject-matter experts from industry, academia, and other government agencies. The purpose is to determine relevance of the program to warfighter needs, program progress toward achieving stated goals, program efficiency, and to share cost. The review also strengthens AFOSR's engagement with the research leadership within the broader government and academic communities, and promotes future collaborations. Across its broad research investment portfolio, we support research knowledge generation and innovation in a systematic manner. We continue to support promising fundamental research in a broad number of organizations, universities, small business, and Service laboratories. Working with many industry and international teams on various research topics

Soliciting Funds from AFOSR
Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) is open at all times to innovative ideas Provides information on AFOSR basic research interests along with Program Officer contact information. Finding the proper program for your research is CRITICAL! Contacting your AFOSR Program Officer can save time, focus your efforts, and lead to a greater chance of success! There is no specific solicitation window, but one should consult with the Program Officer regarding the best time to submit.

Defense University Research Initiative Program (DURIP)
Part of the University Research Initiative (URI). Designed to improve the capabilities of U.S. institutions of higher education to conduct research and to educate scientists and engineers in areas important to national defense by providing funds for acquisition of research equipment. DURIP provides up to $1,500,000 for instrumentation. Recipients must: be accredited U.S. institutions of higher education Public and State controlled institutions of higher education Private institutions of higher education have degree granting programs in science, mathematics and/or engineering
14
Young Investigator Program (YIP)
Enhance early career development of outstanding young investigator by fostering creative basic research in science and engineering via AF research projects Received PhD in the last five years 481 awards since FY07 $120K per year for 3 years (additional 2 years option) FY 17, 59 new YIPs awarded totaling $21.1M FY18 YIP BAA projected to open mid Mar 17 (posted on The AF YIP is to support scientists and engineers who have received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in the last five years. The young investigator must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident. The individual award will be made to a U.S. institution of higher education, small business, or non-profit research organization where the principal investigator is employed on a full-time basis and holds a regular position. * For FY17, there has been a schedule adjustment. New submission proposals are due 01 Jun 16 via (BAA-AFRL-AFOSR ) * Request that prospective YIP grantees review the general BAA, BAA-AFRL-AFOSR , Research Interests of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, to see current AFOSR research areas and program officers prior to submitting YIP. * White papers/Pre-proposals are at the discretion of the program officer
