2 Workshop aim and objectives
gather key players and stakeholders for setting out capacity development actions in innovative uses of EO and in-situ technologies for global monitoring of agriculture, agric. changes and its environmental impacts. current progress on translation of research into operational monitoring actions, incl. use of capacity development actions, dissemination and rapid uptake of EO practices, in the framework of SIGMA discuss the ways forward to integrate capacity development and new modes of learning into GEO initiatives and flagships. Exchange experiences among GEO partners around the globe ITC building entrance

Session 1: Global Agricultural Monitoring and Food Security – Geoglam agenda, capacity needs and opportunities GEOGLAM challenges and achievements; contributions from SIGMA and Russia, Agricultural Monitoring from space Speakers from GEO, Europe, Russia, US, others… Session 2 a+b: Capacity Development for EO in practice: learning modes, tools and experiences Capacity developers, educators and researchers talk “experience”.. Some project cases highlighting different approaches Space agencies (& related institutions) actions and involvements EUMETSAT, NASA, ESA, CMA(CAAS), IKI (for Russia), SANSA,….

Session 3: Panel and group discussions: “www” or ‘what works where’ in Capacity Development for EO? -> Seed Questions: What is the role of MOOC’s, WIKI’s, new ICT support tools, social media in capacity development in earth observation in the context of GEO? What instruments are available or needed to measure and monitor the outcomes (the net effect of an activity + output) and the impact (the long term effect) of capacity development efforts in GEO? How can we improve coordination of regional capacity development initiatives in GEO to foster best practices and create synergies avoiding overlap?

Summary reporting and contribute to (type “white paper”) on Capacity Development in EO for GEO Feedback into GEO Capacity development foundational task(s) Work towards Global synergy effort(s) But before … Session …
