2. Epic Basic Appointment: Patient Preferences
In this lesson you will learn to:
Access the Patient Preference window
Make selections within the Patient Preference window
Identify if the patient has a preference
Temporarily turn the preference off
Permanently turn the preference off

3. Epic Basic Appointment: Patient Preferences
Epic allows you to access the Patient Preferences window from the Patient Options menu when scheduling an appointment or from the Activity toolbar in patient registration.
You can use this window to define a patient’s scheduling and notification preferences. You can also edit or delete any existing preferences on this window.

Patient Preferences Window
Locations: Locations where the patient prefers to be seen
Provider’s Sex: Preferred provider sex.
Language: Preferred language of the provider other than English
Note: To permanently turn off preferences, remove the above entries

5. Epic Basic Appointment: Patient Preferences
When patient preferences are active, you can see them on the Make Appt window when you are scheduling an appointment.
At times, it may be necessary to temporarily turn off patient preferences to schedule another provider who does not fit the preference.

To temporarily turn off patient preferences, you simply click on the check box displayed on the Make Appt screen to remove the check mark.

7. Epic Basic Appointment: Patient Preferences
If you leave the preferences turned on and attempt to schedule with a provider who does not fit the preferences, this message will appear.

To remove the message click ‘OK’ or press Enter.
To find which provider does fit this description, click to see the list of Providers/Resources . Those not grayed out are available for selection.

9. Epic Basic Appointment: Patient Preferences
Remember, if this provider is not available and the parent agrees to see any other provider you can temporarily remove the preference by removing the check mark within the prefer provider checkbox.
