25 Potential Pitfalls Related to SOME Sub-$10,000 HD Acquisition
Chromatic Aberration “Split Screen Effect” The higher the gain setting, the more visible it becomes Also known as “SSE” on the Camera User Forums Excessive noise at all gain settings Vertical Smear Sony HDV Cameras HVR-Z1U ($5999) 45 additional features over the FX1 B/W viewfinder with peaking NTSC and PAL selectable Hyper Gain for lowlight situations Record and Playback DVCAM 4:3 crop bars Increased time code functionality Balanced XLR inputs w/gain control on each channel

26 Examples of Chromatic Aberration

The result is usually a green or purple fringe around objects, especially on high-contrast transitions (light to dark edges).

27 Examples of Chromatic Aberration
Sony HDV Cameras HVR-Z1U ($5999) 45 additional features over the FX1 B/W viewfinder with peaking NTSC and PAL selectable Hyper Gain for lowlight situations Record and Playback DVCAM 4:3 crop bars Increased time code functionality Balanced XLR inputs w/gain control on each channel

The images are split in half and processed using a proprietary dual readout technology. The problem generally appears only with gain on.
