1 Risk Factors and Risk Behaviors
Risks behaviors have several unpleasant health consequences. They can threaten health and increase the likelihood of disease or death.

6 Rachael Age 15 had her first drink of alcohol.
Age 16 was drinking everyday Age 17 was offered crack for the first time. 1 month later she was using crack everyday. Age 19 became a prostitute to pay for her drug addiction.

7 SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE

8 Sedentary lifestyle is
-A medical term that describes someone who has little to no physical activity each day.- - Sedentary lifestyle can lead to many preventable deaths.

9 GENERATIONAL ABUSE One parent with obesity = 50% chance offspring will develop obesity. Two parents with obesity = 80% chance offspring will develop obesity

11 Six categories of Teen risk behaviors
1. Behaviors that lead to injuries/death 2. Tobacco use 3. Alcohol and other drugs 4. Sexual behaviors that result in STD/HIV, unplanned pregnancy 5. Dietary choices 6.Lack of physical activity

12 Review Questions 1. Looking at all six categories, list the four most specific behaviors that you have witnessed teens display. In addition, explain why you think teens behave in that way. 2. What do you think is the biggest influence on teen risk behaviors? 3. Reflect on your own health behaviors. Are there any risk behaviors that you need to work on or you are concerned about? If so, how could you improve these behaviors?

In this portion you need to find statistics that relate to your topic. You will also need to provide a minimum of 3 statistics or facts on the background and history of your topic from the internet, newspaper, books or magazines. Make sure to site your sources that you use and you need to use a minimum of two sources.

14 Causes/Influences: Discuss a minimum of 3 causes/influences that can lead up to this behavior . You also may want to include statistics or facts from the internet, newspaper, books or magazine to support your findings.

15 Consequences/Repercussions:
Discuss a minimum of 3 short term and long term consequences/repercussions of your topic . You need to specifically talk about how it can affect all areas of your life from a legal stand point, to family, to social, to physical, to emotional, and so on in detail with explanations. Provide statistics or facts from the internet, newspaper, books or magazines to support your findings.

16 Restraint/Refusal/Coping Skill:
Discuss a minimum of 3 ways to avoid the situation through restraint/refusal skills. You may need to discuss what actions you could do to help a friend or family member who might be faced with a situation regarding your topic. You can interview a guidance counselor, school social worker or school psychologist to help you.

17 Pictures Project needs a minimum of 3 pictures.
