Note Pie charts are a very bad way of displaying information. The eye is good at judging linear measures and bad at judging relative areas. A bar chart or dot chart is a preferable way of displaying this type of data.

Operational Use of Lidar in Forest Inventory
14
Operational Aspects Estimate Vol, BA, TPA, Biomass, QMD, Crown Bulk Density, etc. Hi-Res wall-to-wall maps* Increase estimation efficiency Populate stands dynamically (from rasters) Fast (1 year, not 1 month) Hi-Res digital terrain model Hi-Res canopy surface model Forest / non-forest Ecological variables < $1 / ac* Repeatable Simple Small mgmt / contracting efforts

Research Topics in Use of Lidar in Forest Inventory
22
Research Topics Species prediction Lidar/Tree-based inventory
Change detection Growth & lidar inventory Component prediction Inventory tools, modeling approaches (R, Python, etc)
23
Operational Gaps in Use of Lidar in Forest Inventory
24
Operational Gaps Required technical capacity Consultants Software*
Training
25
Operational Gaps Software Required technical capacity Consultants
LIDAR DATA Required technical capacity Consultants Software Training
26
How to Proceed Professional Training program
Add lidar inventory to curricula (OSU, UW) Partnership: Academic – Private - Public – Consultants Identify operational gaps Fill them (lots of low hanging fruit) Lidar inventory is very feasible, just need a consolidated effort Too much wasted effort on parallel development
