Array Installation
17
Installation Overview
Unpack the array Obtain the necessary accessories and equipment Mount the controller and expansion trays in a rack or cabinet Connect the AC power to the two power modules Perform initial power-up Connect the management hosts to the controller tray Connect the data hosts to the controller tray Use the WBI or CLI to set the Ethernet IP address, netmask, and gateway address, for each controller module. (DHCP mode by default, if no DHCP server, controller A IP is , controller B is ) Use WBI or the CLI to set the array date and time Set the basic array configuration parameters Plan and implement your storage configuration The order of these steps differs slightly from the steps outlined in the User Guide. The User Guide indicates to set the IP address before connecting data and management hosts. In an entry level implementation however, the user may not have extra hosts available for the configuration steps, so the order shown in this slide would be appropriate.

Connecting to a terminal emulator
Start and configure a terminal emulator, such as HyperTerminal using the following settings: Terminal Emulator Display Settings Terminal Emulation Mode - VT-100 or ANSI (for color support) Font - Terminal Translations - None Columns - 80 Terminal Emulator Connection Settings Connector - COM1 (typically) Baud rate (bits/sec) - 115,200 Data bits - 8 Parity - None Stop bits - 1 Flow control - None 18
19
Connecting via USB link
There is a “Host” interface and a “Device” interface USB Port. The port labeled “Host” (USB Type A) is reserved for future use. The port labeled “CLI” (USB Type B) is used to access the unit via CLI. Certain operating systems require a device driver or special mode of operation to enable proper functioning of the USB CLI port. You can download the device driver from hp.com – download drivers and SW section for P2000 MSA storage.
20
Applying the IP Address
At the prompt (#), type the following command to set the IP address for controller A set network-parameters ip <address> netmask <netmask> gateway <gateway> controller a At the prompt (#), use the same command to set the IP address for controller B except indicate controller B by replacing the “a” at the end of the command with “b” Type the following command to verify the new IP addresses: Show network-parameters Verify Ethernet connectivity by pinging the IP addresses from a different system If you cannot your access your system for at least three minutes after changing the IP address, your network might require you to restart the Management Controller(s) using the serial CLI. When you restart a Management Controller, communication with it is temporarily lost until it successfully restarts. Type the following command to restart the management controller on both controllers: restart mc both You can now manage the storage through the web interface

P2000 G3 controller enclosure support
Controller enclosures support both 3Gbps and 6Gbps internal drives and expander link speeds Mixing 3Gbps and 6Gbps drive enclosures is supported, but performance can be limited if the enclosures are not cabled properly Cable the 3Gbps enclosures behind the 6Gbps enclosures Guidelines Use only supported SAS 4x cables. Mini-SAS to mini-SAS 0.5m cables are provided with the P2000 6Gb 3.5” 12–drive enclosure, D2700 6Gb drive enclosure, and MSA70 3Gb drive enclosure (one per controller) SAS to SAS 0.6m cables are provided with the MSA2000 3Gb 3.5“ 12-drive enclosure (one per I/O module) Longer cables than those supplied with the enclosure must be purchased separately. See the MSA Quick Specs for details The maximum length cable allowed in any configuration is 2m. A maximum of 8 enclosures (including the array enclosure) OR 149 drives are allowed in the array configuration For more information, see the P2000 G3 MSA System Cable Configuration Guide. The P2000 G3 and D2700 drive enclosures both support the SAS 2.0 communication protocol while the MSA70 and MSA2000 drive enclosures both support the SAS 1.1 communication protocol. As such, P2000 G3 and D2700 drive enclosures should always be cabled in front of MSA70 and MSA2000 drive enclosures.

Fault-tolerant example Allows any drive enclosure to fail or be removed Recommended approach to cabling Enclosure I/O modules A shaded green Enclosure I/O modules B shaded red Array The above diagram shows a P2000 G3 MSA System connected to two D2700 6Gb drive enclosures in fault-tolerant fashion. I/O modules A on the drive enclosures are shaded green. I/O modules B on the drive enclosures are shaded red. Fault-tolerant (or reverse) cabling requires that you connect P2000 G3 controller A to I/O module A of the first disk enclosure and cascade this connection on to I/O module A of the last disk enclosure (green). Likewise, you must connect P2000 G3 controller B to I/O module B of the last disk enclosure and cascade this connection on to I/O module B of the first disk enclosure (red).

Upgrades
43
Upgrading existing MSA2000 arrays
P2000 G3 controllers can be used to replace controllers in MSA2000 arrays Existing MSA2000 G1 and G2 customers can upgrade their systems with P2000 G3 SAS controllers. They can retain their chassis, drives, and JBODs. The newly configured unit would take on the full personality of a G3 except that the “back-end” would be restricted to the SAS 3Gb transfer speed. P2000 G3 SAS features like increased scalability, standard snapshot and Volume Copy, and optional Remote Snap would now be characteristic of their newly upgraded array. Not only generational upgrades, but cross-protocol upgrades are also supported. For example owners of an early MSA2000i iSCSI array (G1) could upgrade with third generation P2000 G3 SAS controllers. Upgrade papers will be available on the P2000 G3 SAS web-site.
