BE AFRAID… BE VERY AFRAID!!!!
3
Halloween began two thousand years ago in Ireland, England, and Northern France with the ancient religion of the Celts.
4
On the night of October 31, the Celts celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
5
The Celts dressed up in costumes so that the ghosts would think they were also ghosts.
6
Today Christian people call this day All Hallows’ Day or All Saints Day. People remember their families and friends that have died.
7
Why do children go trick or treating?
8
Long ago… During the All Souls Day festival in England, poor people would beg for food or money. Families would give food and money in return for a promise to pray for the family’s relatives.
9
Now…. Children still go from house to house dressed up in costumes collecting sweets and chocolate!
10
Have you ever heard of the Legend of
Jack-O’Lantern? Beware!!
