2 What is Student Council?
A group of students who work together to: Share ideas Promote school spirit Serve our school and community Make UP the BEST that it can be

3 First, Do You Want To Be On Student Council?
Here’s what you need to qualify: Be a good citizen in the classrooms, on the playground, in the lunchroom, in the hallways and when representing UP in the community on campus or away. Be a hard-working and diligent student. Relate well to other students and adults. Be interested in being a Student Council member in good standing.

4 Second, Decide What Position Interests You
President Leads meetings and discussions Helps plan and facilitate events Vice President Works with President to prepare calendar and agendas Works with the Treasurer to prepare budget Treasurer Keeps track of money spent and money earned during events Works with President and VP in preparing calendar and budget Secretary Keeps track of information decided on at meetings and attendance Keeps students informed of upcoming Council-sponsored events

5 Third, Fill Out the Student Council Application
Get a Student Council Application from your Fourth Grade Teacher Applications are due by Wednesday, October 19 ***You will be required to write one paragraph describing why you would like to be a member of the UP Student Council and give a description of the reasons you believe that you would make a good student council member

6 Fourth, Voting Will Occur
October 26: Preliminary Elections in each 4th grade class One President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary will run from each class Selected candidates begin campaign for STUCO positions Campaign videos will be made November 8: School-Wide Voting Occurs. Only one candidate will be chosen per Student Council Officer position.

7 STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION TIMELINE
October 12: 4th grade meeting in gym at 8:05am October 19: STUCO applications due to your teacher October 26: 4th Grade Class Preliminary Elections for Officer Positions October 27: Winners of Preliminary Officer Elections by classes revealed October 27: Meeting with STUCO Officer Candidates about campaign expectations Get picture taken by Mrs. Guerrant for voting ballot October 31: STUCO Officer Candidates can begin their campaign according to guidelines Nov. 2-4: Students will videotape their speeches to be aired to the school for final voting November 8: School-wide voting November 9: STUCO Officers Officially Announced

8 What If I Don’t Want To Be an STUCO Officer
What If I Don’t Want To Be an STUCO Officer...but I Still Want To Be Involved? You can apply to be a representative on Student Council! (Information on that is coming soon) Be involved by participating in all the events that Student Council hosts!
