3 What are HEAR and DARE? HEAR and DARE are Admissions Schemes established because there are certain groups of students under-represented in third level education. Students with Disabilities and students who for social, financial or cultural reasons are under-represented at third level. Participating Colleges want to ensure that students have a fair and equal opportunity to go to college

4 Why Apply to HEAR and DARE?
Reduced points CAO offers in the participating colleges provided you meet the minimum entry requirements. Post-entry supports such as financial, academic, social and personal.

6 HEAR And DARE in UCD You will be considered if:
You have a minimum of 300 points You have met all of the entry requirements for the course You are within 20% of the points required (e.g. if the cut-off is 500 you must have at least 400 points) Please Note: No guaranteed entry

7 HEAR and DARE in UCD There are approximately 5% of UCD places reserved for HEAR eligible applicants and 5% for DARE eligible applicants.   For 2018 entry students who are both HEAR and DARE eligible or with a physical or sensory disability will be prioritised when allocating reduced points places.

14 DARE Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for DARE you must meet both the DARE educational impact criteria and DARE evidence of disability criteria. Applicants must provide the required evidence of their disability and provide an Educational Impact Statement from their school to be considered for DARE.

Autistic Spectrum Disorders (including Asperger’s Syndrome) ADD / ADHD Blind / Vision Impaired Deaf / Hard of Hearing DCD – Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia Mental Health Condition Neurological Condition (Incl. Brain Injury & Epilepsy,) Speech & Language Communication Disorder Significant Ongoing Illness Physical Disability Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia & Dyscalculia)

16 Section B: Educational Impact Statement
Provides information on how your disability has impacted on your second level education. Download form. Complete the Applicant Checklist with your school. Your school will complete the rest following on from your responses to the Applicant Checklist.

17 Educational Impact Has your disability impacted on a combination of the following? Have you received intervention or supports in post-primary school? Has it impacted on your attendance or regularly disrupted your school day? Has it affected your school experience and well-being? Has it impacted on your learning or exam results? Has it caused any other educational impact? Required for applicants with Specific Learning Difficulty: is it severely impacting on your literacy or numeracy skills?

18 Section B: Educational Impact Statement
This form needs to be completed by either your: Guidance Counsellor Learning Support Teacher Year Head Visiting Teacher or Principal/Deputy Principal The form MUST BE signed and stamped by school Principal/Deputy Principal. You must return to the CAO by 1 April 2018.

19 Section C: Evidence of Disability
Provides verification of your disability and helps to determine 3rd level supports. You can provide an existing report OR Complete Section C Evidence of Disability form 2018. Get form completed, signed and stamped by the appropriate professional or accompanied by their business card or headed paper. GP Verification Your GP may be in a position to complete Section C Evidence of disability, if they have the appropriate information on file from the consultant/specialist.

Age of Reports It is important to note that applicants applying under the following disability categories must provide a report that is less than 3 years old i.e. dated after 1 February 2015. ADD / ADHD Mental Health Condition Significant Ongoing Illness

21 Section C: Evidence of Disability
Psychological Assessment Applicants with a Specific Learning Difficulty (including dyslexia and dyscalculia) must provide a full Psychological Assessment Report of any age completed by a psychologist AND MUST also have two literacy or two numeracy attainment scores at or below the 10th percentile (Standard Score of 81 or below). These attainment scores can be from one (or a combination) of the following sources: 1) Scores from school-based attainment testing 2) Scores from attainment tests carried out by a psychologist. Testing must have been carried out after 1 February 2016 and all applicants must submit an EIS completed by their school.

22 Section C: Evidence of Disability
Psycho Educational Assessment Applicants with DCD - Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia must provide a full psycho-educational assessment of any age AND Evidence of Disability Form 2018 completed by Occupational Therapist or Neurologist or Chartered Physiotherapist OR Existing report completed by Occupational Therapist (No age limit)

23 How to Apply for HEAR & DARE
How do I apply? Apply to CAO at by 1 February 2018. Review your HEAR or DARE Handbook with parents or guardians. 3. Complete all elements of the online application form by 1 March 2018. 4. Submit clear copies of supporting documents requested on your checklist to CAO by 1 April 2018.
