This presentation is designed to help elementary students make purposeful observations of the natural world using the appropriate senses. (Science Standard S.IP.00.11)

Knowing Your Senses Senses are very important. They help us know our surrounding and gather information about the world around us. There are five senses, which are sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing.

Everything we see with our eyes is through our sense of sight.
Colors, movement, light, dark, people, animals, and places are things that we see with our sense of sight. What colors do you see?

Everything we smell with our nose is through our sense of smell.
Flowers, cookies, perfume, dirty diapers, and mint are things we can smell with our sense of smell. Do these things smell good or bad?

Everything we feel with our skin, fingers, and all parts of our body is through our sense of touch.
Cold, hot, pain, soft textures, and hard textures are things we can feel with our sense of touch. What do these objects feel like?

Everything we taste with our tongue is through our sense of taste.
Bitter, sour, sweet, and salty are the four basic tastes that our taste buds can recognize through our sense of taste.

HEARING Everything we hear with our ears is through our sense of hearing. Talking, laughing, crying, yelling, animals noises, and all noises are sounds we can hear with our sense of hearing. What do you hear?
