Strongly influenced by the need for Natura2000 reporting. Driven by use cases to cover experts and non-experts, local, national and Europe-wide.

Definition Area designated or managed within a framework of international, Community and Member States' legislation to achieve specific conservation objectives [Directive 2007/2/EC].

Overview A range of legislation and policies regulate Protected Sites:
Habitats Directive Birds Directive World Heritage Convention... Legal entities with defined boundary and location and date of creation.

Requirements No jurisdictional boundary crossing.
Polygons (simple or complex). No topology. Absolute, not relative boundaries. Varying spatial resolution.

Profiles There are a number of different priorities for Protected Sites. Needed to meet reporting requirements, but minimise burden on Member States. Three profiles: Simple Full Natura2000

Conclusions There’s a simple path.
There’s a path for Natura2000 compliance. Covers a range of use cases for different users and different scales.
