2 Learning Target 1/12/16: Students will demonstrate their understanding of episode 4 “Inconsistencies "of Serial by taking note of Jay’s claims and evaluating his story in comparison to other conflictive claims.

3 Episode 3 Review Mr. S voluntarily goes to the police when he finds a dead body, and yet the detectives are very suspicious of his story. List at least 3 things that hurts Ms. S’s credibility. Do you ultimately believe him? Sequence (in order) the ten most significant details of Mr. S’s story. Consider the possibility that Serial is not just a story about Adnan, but it’s also a story of Sarah’s search for truth. Even if none of these clues ultimately help solve the case, what does this episode show us about Sarah’s researching skills as an investigative reporter?

*While listening to episode 4 “Inconsistencies” of Serial, it is critical that you take notes on all the details of Jay’s claims and inconsistencies which will allow you to build an argumentative case for your essay.

- Finish listening, completing vocab, and taking notes on episode 4 “Inconsistencies” Answer the following questions in your packet: What portrait has Sarah Koenig painted of Jay in episode 4? Discuss the character of Jen and how she impacts Jay’s story. Identify 3 major inconsistencies or shifts in Jay’s story and explain if you think he is lying. Why would he change his story? Use online source to examine Jay’s testimony.
