Read the paragraph below and find examples of metaphor, simile, onomatopoeia, personification, oxymoron and/or alliteration.
Mary and John nervously walked into the counselor's office for their appointment. They sat on the leafy green couch awkwardly waiting for the other to speak. John spoke first. His thoughts and feelings soon gushed out like water from a faucet. Mary’s icy stare showed her displeasure with his forthcoming nature, but the counselor quickly calmed her by cutting him off. When the end of session alarm clock sprang to life and began to buzz, Mary was ready to flee the scene of the investigation. With the anger boiling up
inside her, she knew that a fight would take place
once they were alone together.

3. Body Paragraph #3: Your Thesis in your life
At this point in the writing process, you have created a thesis and analyzed its presence in To Kill a Mockingbird and a current event. Now, it’s time to begin planning your third body paragraph. This paragraph focuses on proving your thesis through a mini-narrative (a story from your perspective!) from your own life.
For example, my thesis is “kindness is more powerful than cruelty,” so I talked about my experience in an animal shelter dealing with abused dogs.

4. 3rd Body Paragraph Outline:
Topic Sentence – What does your paragraph focus on?
Personal Narrative Example– Pull the reader into a moment from your life that has caused you to believe your thesis. Be sure to use at least one piece of dialogue and at least three pieces of descriptive language.
Explanation – How does this prove your thesis?
Concluding Sentence – Provide further commentary. How is your thesis proven in your narrative?

Read through the document and follow each step. The document has directions for how to write your second body paragraph, step by step. When you finish, you’ll have a complete first body paragraph!
