3 You guys are here for a reason, you guys made and make things happen, and make things work, you guys are the super heroes of your groups, you guys are real leaders…. And being one of these super heroes is not easy work, it takes a lot of courage, a lot of effort and time and energies. But we do it because we believe in what we do, we believe in the possibility of making things better. But sometimes because it takes so much work to achieve things, it might be difficult for us to believe in others, to trust others around us, because we don’t want to lose the game, we wanna win, and we do it with the best intentions… but we don’t realize that we leave one of the most important reason for doing what we do in ASME, team work, and achieve things together… It takes efficient leadership to build a successful team. Successful team building is both an art and science, where an ideal environment is created for an awesome team to operate. Successful team primarily means a group of people who share substantial working relationship with each other contributing tremendously to the organization. Successful and powerful teams motivate team members to learn, grow and be a part of the collective success of the business. Team development is a process in which a team takes time to explore its potential – how it can become greater than it’s been before.

8 Shift Happens It takes efficient leadership to build a successful team. How do we make that happen?

9 GOALS of Team Building The overall goals of team building are to increase the teams understanding of team dynamics and improve how the team works together. Unlike working as a group, working as a team incorporates group accountability rather than individual accountability and results in a collective work product. Advantages to this approach include:[6] Increased flexibility in skills and abilities More productive than work groups with individual mindset More beneficial in times of organizational change Encourage both individual and team development and improvement Focuses on group goals to accomplish more beneficial tasks Improved range of team building objectives such as collaboration, communication and increased creative or flexible thinking.

10 The Golden Circle: The Golden Circle by Simon Sinek
In any organization… “Everybody knows “what” they do 100%. Some know how they do it. But very very few people or organizations know WHY they do it We follow those who lead not because we have to, but because we want to… we follow those who inspire us, and have a purpose. Give apple example

11 HOW? Team Spirit Organizational environment: The climate and culture of the organization must be conducive to team behavior. Competitiveness should be discouraged and uniformity should be encouraged - this will eliminate conflict and discord among team members.

12 Understand the organization’s goal
WHY? Understand the organization’s goal Organization’s goal is an essential thing to be known even before starting any activity. Make sure that the organization’s goal is clearly explained to your team and they commit to attain it. An effective team depends on how focused and clear the goal of the team is.

13 Group Activity: Create Golden Circle Statement for your group
Divide into groups per District preferably 10 minutes to prepare WHY-HOW-WHAT 1 minute each group to present Materials: big paper sheets and markers of different colors. 14 Simple Tips for Successful Team Building

15 Have a balanced team It is very important that a team has varied talent. Every individual has a different point of view which might turn out to be  important. Therefore, it is beneficial to have a team members who are good at different or multiple things. Successful teams are made up of a collection of effective individuals. These are people who are experienced, have problem solving ability, are open to addressing the problem, and are action oriented.

16 Trust is the bedrock of high performance
Trust is the bedrock of high performance. If the team has high trust, everything works better. Have you ever managed people who didn't trust one another? If you have, then you'll know how challenging and draining this can be. A team without trust isn't really a team: it's just a group of individuals, working together, often making disappointing progress. They may not share information, they might battle over rights and responsibilities, and they may not cooperate with one another. It doesn't matter how capable or talented your people are, they may never reach their full potential if trust isn't present. However, when trust is in place, each individual in the team becomes stronger, because he or she is part of an effective, cohesive group. When people trust one another, the group can achieve truly meaningful goals. “You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment if you don't trust enough”

17 Team Leadership Open Communication Encourage Creativity
Effective team leadership depends on leadership competencies. A competent leader is: focused on the goal, ensures a collaborative climate, builds confidence of team members, sets priorities, demonstrates sufficient “know-how” and manages performance through feedback. Open communication brings out new ideas and solutions to the problem. The team members will get equal chance to express their thoughts about the workflow which is favorable to the organization. For a team to be successful the members of the team must be able to give and receive feedback. A relaxed, comfortable and accepting environment and finally, open and honest communication are required. Creativity: allow your team to explore and experiment the new ideas that come up in the meetings and group discussions. While you do this, you give them freedom that they will use it to meet the organization’s goals. Recognition is a crucial thing that not only makes the contributing member stand out, but motivates the other team members to work harder to out go them the next time.  This in fact makes the team more efficient and innovative. Give Recognition

18 What Not to Do If you were a marathon runner, would you train just a few times a year for your next race? Of course not. You would run almost every day. Why? Because only through regular, continuous training and exercise would you have a chance at winning. Team building works on the same principle. Most managers plan one or two events per year, and that's it. There's rarely any regular 'training' or follow-up, and this can hold back the group's long-term success. Effective team building needs to happen continuously if you want your group to be successful. It needs to be part of the corporate culture. If you lead a group, aim to incorporate team-building exercises into your weekly or monthly routine. This will help everyone address their different issues, and it will give them a chance to have fun, and learn to trust one another – more than just once or twice a year.

19 Enjoy what you do, it is important
Never forget your dreams Be kind to one another And be inclusive
