1 “If you have never failed, you have never lived”

2 Gospel Mark 3:1-6 Jesus went into a synagogue, and there was a man there who had a withered hand. And they were watching him to see if he would cure him on the sabbath day, hoping for something to use against him. He said to the man with the withered hand, ‘Stand up out in the middle!’ Then he said to them, ‘Is it against the law on the sabbath day to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to kill?’ But they said nothing. Then, grieved to find them so obstinate, he looked angrily round at them, and said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ He stretched it out and his hand was better. The Pharisees went out and at once began to plot with the Herodians against him, discussing how to destroy him.

3 The Pharisees set Jesus up for failure
The Pharisees set Jesus up for failure. No matter what he did it would have been the wrong decision. If he healed the mans hand then he would have broken the sacred Jewish law by working on the Sabbath, if he didn’t heal the mans hand then he would not be living by his teaching of love and compassion. Do you ever feel like you are always failing? That no matter how hard you try you can never get it right? You’re not on your own, before success there is always a failure. The failure does not define you as a person but the way that you react to that failure and continue to strive for success does. Failure is just as important as success as it makes success all the better when you finally get there. Watch me!

You will each be given a template of a dice. On each side of the dice write one quality that you know you have. 5 Almighty God, our Heavenly Father
We thank you for our school, our pupils, our teachers, our parents and our governing body. Help us to grow together as a worshipping, learning community. We ask that you give us the humility to share our strengths and gifts humbly, and  the determination, resilience and open-mindedness to listen to others when we are struggling. We thank you for the friendships that we make at our school and we ask for your loving care as you watch over our school. Most of all we ask that you continue to teach us and lead us, in being the people you would like us to be, as you walk beside us every day of our lives. We ask this prayer in your holy name. Amen
