Should we drop the bomb?

Possible pros/cons An invasion of Japan would have caused casualties on both sides. Japan was ready to call it quits anyway. Immediate use of the bomb would convince the world of its horror and prevented future use. The two cities were of limited military value and contained many civilians. The bomb's use would impress the Soviet Union and show our power. It would halt the war quickly. The Japanese had demonstrated fierce resistance. The bomb could be used partly to justify the $2 billion spent on its development.
