This is a summary of a the FY 2018 marketing strategy for England. City & Guilds Technical Qualifications

April 2018 Key components of our Technical Qualifications These are the components that make up Technical Qualifications. All components must be completed to achieve the qualification. Technical Qualifications Synoptic Assignment Contributes to 60% of overall grade - Externally set (City & Guilds) - Internally marked (Centre) - Externally moderated (City & Guilds) - Contributes to final Technical Qualification grade Theory exam(s) Contributes to 40% of overall grade - Externally marked (City & Guilds) Employer involvement (KS5 qualifications L2 & L3 only) - Centres develop programme of activities - Evidence submitted (Centre) - External review and approval (City & Guilds) - Requirement for Technical Qualification Centre-assessed components (e.g. optional units) Does not apply to all Technicals - - Centres select which units to deliver - Samples externally moderated (City & Guilds) There is no direct claim status (DCS) for Technical Qualifications. Results are issued by City & Guilds

7 Approval Process: Centre decides which qualifications they want to offer Centre applies for the qualification(s) by submitting a QAP form through the Walled Garden in the Quality tab Quality team receives the approval application and begins the approval process For existing Centres, based on Centre and qualification risk the Quality Delivery team will either complete a desk based approval and / or an EQA will be required to visit the Centre before approval can be granted Technical Qualifications follow the academic year, so approved Centres must ensure they meet key delivery and assessment deadlines. New Centres: If you’re a school, college or a private training provider looking to become a City & Guilds centre, please get in touch via our Customer Application Form on our website. Once you've filled out the form you’ll be contacted by us and we’ll guide you through the process of becoming a centre and you could be up and running in as little as 30 days. Existing Centres: If you're an existing City & Guilds centre looking to offer more qualifications including Technical Qualifications, you’ll need to submit a Qualification Approval (QAP) Form within the Walled Garden Portal. Centres already delivering Level 3 Technicals would be able to be 'automatically approved' for any subsequent Level 2's. April 2018

High-quality robust assessment methodology in-line with Post-16 Skills Plan Our sector-specific Technical Advisors will support throughout the transition from curriculum planning through to on-boarding These are rigorous, at Level 2 and 3, they equip learners with specialist knowledge and skills, enabling entry to an apprenticeship, employment or progression to a related higher education course Our Level 3 Technical Advanced Extended Diploma carry UCAS points and widely recognised and accepted by universities in the UK Content and assessment materials produced by technical experts with experience of delivery, ensuring that the qualifications are pitched at the right level to be understood by learners and prepare them for employment and further education. Industry bodies, employers and colleges / universities have steered the design process.

11 Employer involvement (KS5 only)
April 2018 Employer involvement (KS5 only) For the Key Stage 5 Technical Qualifications (L2 & L3), the employer involvement component must be met by all learners in order to achieve the qualification. This process is explained in the ‘Employer Involvement Centre Guidance’ document too. Stage 1 - Approval Centre completes employer involvement plan as part of qualification approval City & Guilds review plan during approval visit and give improvement actions if necessary Approval is given, provided all other approval requirements are met Centre submits plan for final sign off by the Quality Team Stage 3 Submission Centre completes employer involvement declaration and submits evidence for learners in sample City & Guilds review declaration and learner evidence and confirm whether requirement has been met (remote activity) If required, City & Guilds provide actions to be completed by centre in order for requirements to be met Centres arrange for learners to undertake range of ‘meaningful’ employer involvement activities Centres ensure that evidence of employer involvement activities is captured Contingency arranged for learners unable to complete / access employer involvement activities Stage 2 - Delivery

April 2018 Learner Journals (available for Hairdressing and Beauty) Learner Journals contain the scope of content for each unit within the qualifications and opportunities for learners to reflect upon their learning. Learners can also receive observational feedback from their tutors, employers or clients in the classroom or during a workplace placement and log any work experience. They also include lots of helpful pictures, hints, tips and quotes from top names in the industry – all designed to make the qualification simple to understand and fun to practise.
