Introduced and passed 2009 Directed revamping of Kentucky’s assessment and accountability system Direct Kentucky postsecondary institutions to plan and implement a process to develop core academic content standards for reading and mathematics for introductory courses.

Section 2 Revise state assessment system to be implemented Variety of assessments including accelerated learning, criterion-referenced test, end of course examinations, formative assessments, interim assessments, national norm-referenced test

Revision of academic content standards in all areas Must consider national standards Aligned with entry level college course requirements Included in teacher preparation programs so teachers will know how to use them

31 The 6 C’s What worked well with this class might go fiasco with the other. There is no consistency in the effectiveness of the teaching methods because we are teaching human beings with different needs,cultural backgrounds, ethnic belongings, psychological make-ups , and  learning styles. Teaching is the only job in which the employee deals with all types of people a given society can include.Yet, we dearly love our job and we have equipped ourselves with such an adaptability skill that enables us to seamlessly and easily  blend in any educational context. Communication: Shares thoughts, questions, ideas, and solutions in positive, constructive, productive ways. Collaboration: Is able to work with others to reach a goal---uses talent, expertise, and smarts to work constructively as part of a team or group. Critical Thinking: Looks at a problem in a new and/or different ways, linking learning across subjects & disciplines, and seeks to understand issues from multiple perspectives in order to solve problems. Creativity: Tries or thinks about new approaches to get things done and seeks to be innovative and inventive in both day-day work and professional development.

33 NXGL FOCUS World Class Knowledge and Skills: To realize this attribute, the Partnership will support the Network in helping students acquire, practice, and demonstrate the various dimensions of learning that lead to college and career readiness throughout the disciplines. An important component of this work is defining, recognizing and demonstrating a clear vision of success. STUDENT VOICE: To realize this attribute, the Partnership will support the Network in engaging students as active agents of change. Students will be given the opportunity to co-create new systems of learning and peer-support. Students will take on roles in advocacy and communication efforts to build connections to the broader community. Students will own their learning. PERFORMANCE BASED LEARNING: To realize this attribute, the Partnership will support the Network in finding, developing and refining new learning models that promote individual growth towards increasingly complex learning, rather than putting students through a schooling process that measures and credentials based on time. Students will be provided with explicit and challenging learning objectives and supported by a comprehensive assessment system that is meaningful and positive. PERSONALIZED LEARNING: To realize this attribute, the Partnership will support the Network in developing tools and capacities to create and deliver customized learning plans for all students. Students, working collaboratively with educators, family and community, will develop plans that guide their learning experiences from the time they enter the system until they graduate. The full-scale implementation of customized learning plans will ensure that all students receive the supports they need to achieve college and career readiness. ANYTIME, ANYWHERE: To realize this attribute, the Partnership will work with the Network to identify and acquire web-based technology, resources, and practices that are innovative and future-focused. The Network will leverage these technology- enabled solutions to ensure that every student has ubiquitous access to world-class technology, content, teaching and supports for learning. This strand of work will enhance virtual interconnectivity and will equip students with skills they need to use technology safely and responsibly. COMPREHENSIVE SYSTEM OF SUPPORT: To realize this attribute, the Partnership will support the Network in working within and across states to develop comprehensive youth-friendly support structures that are easily accessed, timely, and continuous. These structures will go beyond conventional academic interventions to address the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive developmental needs of students. This work will require new and deeper collaborations with other agencies and support systems. Finally, this strand of work will establish new relationships with postsecondary education and workplace to support students through important transitions.

Each day they… Spend an average of 3-4 hours online (Social networking, watching videos, playing games, writing blogs, downloading and listening to music, ing, etc.) Send and receive approximately 100 text messages…and…place/receive 20 or more calls. (566% increase over the past 2 years) Will have written and read more material online than they have in a classroom…
