What causes cardiovascular disease? Cholesterol carried in your system can block arteries, which can cause a heart attack or stroke High blood pressure can also contribute to cardiovascular disease

4 What to do if you are living with…
High Cholesterol *Modify their diet *Reduce their fat, saturated fat, cholesterol intake and increase their soluble fiber High Blood Pressure *Reduce sodium intake and processed food intake

5 What Can people with Heart Disease drink?
Low fat Fat free or low fat dairy Sugar-free No or low sodium

6 Diabetes Diabetes is an illness that affects the body’s ability to convert sugar into energy Almost 16 Million Americans have diabetes Two types of diabetes: Type 1: They do not produce insulin in their bodies Type 2: They do not produce enough insulin, or their bodies ignore the insulin

7 What to do if you are living with Diabetes…
People with diabetes must balance food, portion size, exercise and medication to avoid health problems

8 What Can People with Diabetes drink?
Zero or low calorie No Sugar (use sweetners) Low fat 1% milk or Skim Milk Low Carbohydrates Low Sodium

9 Weight Issues Being overweight means a person has too much fat on their body This can cause diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer Being obese means that a person is very overweight This can cause osteoarthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some forms of cancer

10 When trying to lose weight or maintain weight, a person should order…
-low calorie -low sodium -low fat -low carbohydrate -low fat/ nonfat milk -sugar-free -skip the whip (no whipped cream)
