2 What are Author Rights? From the moment you put your material into a “fixed format” you have these rights: To reproduce the work (to publish, make copies, reformat, etc.) To create derivative works (to edit or to build upon an existing piece of scholarship) To distribute the work (to publish, republish, give away, sell, etc.) To perform the work publicly To display the work To broadcast the work The right of attribution and integrity

3 What rights should I try to keep?
To use and develop your own work without restriction To increase access for education and research To receive proper attribution when your work is used If you choose, deposit your work in an open online archive where it will be permanently and openly accessible

4 What rights does the publisher need?
Obtain a non-exclusive right to publish and distribute a work and receive a financial return Receive proper attribution and citation as journal of first publication Migrate the work to future formats and include it in collections

5 How do I Keep My Rights? Add addendum to publisher agreement
