As you prepare to register, please be aware of this special course sections: NEW COURSE! HTM 201 – Good Food Gone Bad: Food Safety for Everyone Looking for a 1 credit class? Here’s a brand new 1 credit course offering from the Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Department! This 5-week course covers food safety best practices in food service, manufacturing, agriculture, commercial and charitable food distribution. Counts toward the Environmental Studies Sustainable Food Systems Certificate! HTM – Fall 2018 Days/Time: Fridays, 1:00 PM – 3:50 PM Dates: September 7 – October 5

The GVSU HTM Department is guaranteed scholarship money for our students ($7,500 this year!), so don’t miss out on this great opportunity to help cover some of the costs of your education! PLEASE NOTE: Applications are to be completed ONLINE through AH&LEF’s website. You will need to give a copy of your completed application and your application confirmation number to Victoria Stubbs in the HTM Office no later than Friday, April 6, 2018 by 5pm.  Past recipients of the AH&LEF Annual Grant Scholarship may apply again! The GMC-PCMA Michigan Student Day is your opportunity to learn what is current in our industry.  Your time will be spent in a variety of meeting formats hearing from professionals in many aspects of the industry.  Meeting professionals from both the association and corporate world, destination marketing organizations, convention center and decorators.  Special sessions will be devoted to interaction with human resource professionals as well as hearing from recent grads who are already working in the industry.  They want to share their story of graduation to employment.  And as always our day will finish with a networking event to allow every student the chance to get one-on-one with any of the industry professionals. This semester long course includes a class trip on a 4-day Disney Cruise during Spring Break! HTM – Winter 2019 Days/Time: Tuesday/Thursday – 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM Instructor: Michael Scantlebury

12 NRM 300: Ethical Recreation – Leave No Trace (1 cr.)
Includes 2 DAYS OF BACKPACKING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Course meets 4 days: Class: Thur. May 17 and Fri. May 18, 2 pm - 4:50 pm (1173 KHS-Allendale Backpacking: Sat. May 19 - Sun. May 20, Manistee National Forest The most common program governing ethical conduct when recreating is Leave No Trace (LNT). The 7 LNT principles are based on science. Increasingly agencies want employees to know LNT principles. Successful completion of the course means you will receive a LNT certificate. Course Design: The course consists of classroom activities followed by backpacking where you will actually use the principles learned in the classroom. We will backpack Saturday and Sunday in the Manistee National Forest. You will need to do a variety of things before the class (reading the book, answering the questions on the handout, menu planning, etc.). Application: This is a PERMIT ONLY class.
