1 English I Honors Aug. 22nd Materials: something to write with, journals (or separate sheet of paper)…If you don’t have one, I hope that you get one soon!!! In your journal, write the date (Aug. 18th) and then put “FACTS” on the left side of the page and “OPINIONS” on right side of the page. You will have FIVE minutes to list as many facts and opinions as you can. The student with the most in five minutes will win a reward, but here’s the catch...you must read them out loud for the class. Mr. Siebels will be the referee to make sure that they are actually FACTS and/or OPINIONS!!!

English I Honors Aug. 22nd Now, underneath your list of facts on the left side, write down the following terms: Names- Statistics- Places-Dates- Times Jot down one real world example of each. For instance… Name- Huey Lewis, Statistics- 1 out of three people have experienced hunger…

3 Believe- Should- Feel- May- Possibly
English I Honors Aug. 22nd Underneath “OPINIONS” on the right hand side, jot down the following terms: Believe- Should- Feel- May- Possibly These words show that someone is using an opinion. Are there any others that you can think of? Write down AT LEAST 1 more example of a word that shows opinion

4 Ok, let’s grab a magazine, any magazine!
English I Honors Aug. 22nd Ok, let’s grab a magazine, any magazine! On one of the index cards that I handed out, jot down your name, the title of the magazine you chose, a MINIMUM of two facts, and a MINIMUM of two opinions that you found within that magazine. Remember, look for those words that we took note of for opinions and facts!
