Student Exchange: an important component of academic exchange between universities from different countries and regions

APRU 9 TH ANNUAL PRESIDENTS MEETING 3 Forms of Student Exchange: Joint Degree Program: joint tutoring of graduate students (ZU with Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) Exchange with Credits: taking courses at the host university (ZU with Duke University, Tufts University, NUS, etc. ) Short-term Exchange: 4 – 8 weeks, with lectures, seminars, cultural tours, visits to business companies, internships, sports, contests and competitions of various kinds, etc.

APRU 9 TH ANNUAL PRESIDENTS MEETING As exchange with credits involves mutual recognition of qualifications and credit transfer, its operation requires certain conditions. Therefore what is proposed here is short- term student exchange between APRU member universities as a first step, which can promote substantial cooperation between the members and lead to future joint degree programs or credit programs. APRU 9 TH ANNUAL PRESIDENTS MEETING In 2004, the university received about 2,000 foreign students from over 90 countries, including 250 short-term exchange students from USA, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Korea. The summer student exchange program between ZU and NUS is well under way. Meanwhile, several hundred ZU students also participated in short- term exchange programs at universities in the above-mentioned countries. Student Exchange at Zhejiang University

ZU with University of Alberta, Canada (4 weeks in Hangzhou) Short-term Student Exchange Programs at ZU Lectures: Chinese language, Chinese drama, Chinese economy Tours: West lake resorts, ancient towns, specialized markets, etc. Field trips: Business companies, villages, etc.
