The CRTC Canadian Radio-Television and Communications Commission
At times, many musicians feel the need to leave Canada to have a prosperous career. In 1929, the Canadian government began to believe that the Canadian radio airwaves should contain Canadian content. 1958 Broadcasting Act introduced the Board of Broadcast Governors (BBG) to ensure that the Canadian system was basically “Canadian in content and character”. The BBG became the CRTC in 1979.

The CRTC is to protect and promote Canadian culture.
To ensure that Canadians are offered information and entertainment from a “Canadian Point of View”. Radio and TV must devote a specific amount of time each day to Canadian content. This means more opportunity for Canadian artists to be heard.
