Korean War, 1950-1953 First hot war of the Cold War
Division at 38th parallel after WWII USSR rebuilt North; US rebuilt South Attempts/elections to re-unify were rocky and unsuccessful 1950: skirmishes turned into war when N invaded S N had Soviet approval and Chinese support US backed S through the United Nations Technically war was a “UN police action” How did this happen??? US troops eventually entered N and “poked at” China; Chinese forces engaged and pushed US/UN back across 38th parallel General MacArthur removed for insubordination Fought to a stalemate
