What is a Webinar? Web-based seminar, a Webinar is a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web. A key feature of a Webinar is its interactive elements -- the ability to give, receive and discuss information. What are Webinars used for? Webinar's are primarily used to train a large number of people or build brand and generate sales leads. Additional uses are: corporate announcements, focus groups, and press conferences.

Webinar Hosting a Webinar requires the use of specialized software that enables presenter(s) to deliver an interactive presentation via the Internet (or Web). Many vendors offer Webinar services. These software applications vary tremendously in features and price. Examples of differentiating features include the ability to: Use integrated audio conferencing or audio via the public Internet (computer speakers) Let the audience see the presenter's computer screen for live product demos Show animation Recording capabilities for later playback Attendee pre-registration and reporting Present audience polls and questionnaires Manage live question and answer dialogs during a presentation

Webinar What are the benefits? Ability to reach a larger audience
Reduce cost Digitally record and allow future playback What do I need to attend? A computer Internet access A phone line for listening to the teleconference portion

How are Webinars used? You will see webinars promoted for workgroup conferences, where all members can collaborate and modify work documents concurrently. Webinars are also used for remote training, where an instructor can lead students through lessons and exercises, with integrated online testing. Webinars can be used to facilitate one-to-one meetings in applications such as technical support, allowing users to share views (or even control) of their computer desktops. Webinars can be an effective means to bring people together without travel expenses and inconvenience.

Podcasting What Is Podcasting?

Podcasting What is Podcasting Podcasting is online audio content that is delivered via an RSS feed. Podcasting, listeners can determine the time and the place, of programming they want to receive and when they want to listen to it. Listeners can retain audio archives to listen to at their leisure. While blogs have turned many bloggers into journalists, podcasting has the potential to turn podcasters into radio personalities.

Podcasting Podcasting can be used for:
1. Self-guided walking tours - informational content. 2. Music - band promotional clips and interviews. 3. Talk shows - industry or organizational news, investor news, sportscasts, news coverage and commentaries. 4. Training - instructional informational materials. 5. Story - story telling for children or the visually impaired.Think of this is as an attachment.

Podcasting Podcasting is the syndication of audio files using RSS. Podcasting works the same as a standard RSS feed reader or news aggregator, the only difference is that the feed you subscribe to contains an audio file in it.

Podcasting Instead of reading content in your RSS feed reader or aggregator, you can listen to the contents of your feed using a reader or aggregator that supports podcasting, or you can listen to them on an iPod or similar device.

Podcasting While podcasting was named for the iPod, you do not have to have an iPod to listen to a podcast. Podcasts can be displayed on websites with clickable links to audio files and many of the standard RSS readers, like Feed Demon's latest beta, have begun supporting audio enclosures.

Podcasting There are three kinds of podcasts.
Audio – Usually an MP3 file Image – Photos, Clipart Video –Short Clips, Movies You can download and Listen to podcasts with a variety of devices, such as: desktop computers, laptop computers, MP3 players (iPods and others), Palm and Windows Mobile handhelds, cell phones.

Podcasting Audio podcasts are usually an MP3 file and are the most common types of podcasts. Enhanced podcasts can have images to go along with the audio. They can also have chapter markers, making it easier to skip to different portions of an episode. Enhanced podcasts are an AAC file and are not supported by all devices.

Podcasting Video podcasts are movies, complete with sound. Video podcasts can be in a variety of formats, but MPEG-4 is the most popular. In most classrooms the teacher will find podcast episodes for students to listen to or watch. Sets of laptops, iPods, Palm handhelds, Pocket PCs, or other devices can be loaded with podcast episodes so students can use them at their desks, on field trips, in the library, or at home.

Podcasting Creating podcasts has many educational benefits. Students are able to create a product to share with a potentially world-wide audience. Their podcast can be listed in iTunes, right along with podcasts from the discovery channel, Disney, and NPR. Knowing that there is a real-world audience gives students purpose and motivation to create a spectacular product.

Podcasting Podcasting lets anybody with a microphone; a computer and an Internet connection publish audio broadcasts that can be listened to by people anywhere in the world. Because the barriers to entry are very low, podcasting is rapidly becoming a popular way for people to share audio broadcasts. Podcasts are free and can be automatically downloaded to portable media players.

Podcasting In an educational context...
...podcasting can be used by both teachers and pupils and is attracting significant interest from all educational sectors. In the classroom podcasting: Can be tailored to any curriculum area. Can provide bespoke materials to support any learning situation with audio material for learning "on demand", at anytime and anywhere. Potential to support or extend the work of any pupil with special needs. Useful for children who miss sessions, e.g. due to illness
