2 Why Chromebooks? We believe that the Chromebooks will help students develop skills that are critical in our 21st Century work world. Benefits to Students Increased access to technology Increased achievement opportunities Ability to transfer knowledge across disciplines Increased student directed learning

3 Using Chromebooks at School
Students must be responsible and bring their Chromebook to class each day unless specifically advised not to do so by teacher (ie. All day- Field trip) Acceptable Use is expected at all times Recommended – a case or sleeve

How can you help? Monitor your child’s Facebook or other social networking accounts. Monitor child’s Internet use at home Know their passwords and other site passwords No Web filtering software available for home use Parents ARE responsible for Internet safety at home

6 Taking Care of Chromebooks
General Care No food or drink near the Chromebook Use cords, cables, with care Carry Chromebooks closed, not open (in cases is BEST) Shut down Chromebooks to save battery No Stickers, writing, drawing or labels Do not leave Chromebook in your car or an unsupervised area

7 Taking Care of Chromebooks
Proper Care Do not lean on top of Chromebook or put anything on top of it Do not put anything in case/sleeve except Chromebook Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (ie. pens, pencils) Clean the screen with soft, DRY cloth or antistatic cloth Clean keyboard with electronic wipes

8 Lost or Damaged Chromebook
A Chromebook is just like a textbook If lost, you will have to pay for it ($350.00) If damaged and can be fixed, you will have to pay for cost of damage. If it can’t be fixed, you will have to replace the Chromebook ($350.00) It is OPTIONAL to take the Chromebook home and therefore your responsibility to take care of it

9 Guidelines for Use Primary Use: educational tool
Students will be expected to arrive at school every day with Chromebook and a fully charged battery Much like textbooks and notebooks, students will need their Chromebooks for everyday use Students leaving their Chromebooks at home will need to phone a parent to bring their Chromebook to school

10 Guidelines for Use The student who is issued the Chromebook is responsible at all times for its appropriate use Consequences for inappropriate use will be determined by the classroom teacher/Principal

11 Tech Support Students and teachers will receive tech support at school
No tech support will be provided for home use Chromebooks will be collected in June for maintenance

12 Next Steps Two documents must be signed and returned):
Parent & Student Contract Acceptable Use Agreement Be sure to SIGN both documents Be sure to review with your son/daughter
