Welcome to 7th Grade Science
Make a name tag (You have 6 minutes) Folding your paper in half (Hamburger style) Open your paper Fold the left side into the center line Fold the right side into the center line Keep it folded and make a tent Using marker write the name you would like to be called on both sides . If you have remaining time you may decorate your name tent.

1. Attention When I say, You say, I expect 3 things to happen…
1. Close your mouth 2. Focus eyes on me 3. Have listening ears “CLASS!”… “YES?” Use a Rally Robin to practice this. Name the things you did this summer….Swim, Played baseball…

Phrase of the Week CLASS…YES is boring !! Would you like to come up with you own? EX: I would say Squirrel …and you would say WHERE? Round Table (See Team Mats) You will have 45 seconds to think of some phrases on your own. You may jot them down on your white board. Your team will use one piece of paper . # _______________ will start with the paper. They will say their idea out loud and then write it down. They will pass the paper to their left. This person will now say their idea out loud and then write it down. You will continue for 2 minutes.

Simultaneous Round Table: Question: Review the 3 procedures Each person will have a paper ( you all have the same paper) 1) When I say, “GO” fill in one blank (just one) 2) When you are done put your thumb up in the middle of the table. 3) When everyone has their thumb up pass the paper to the left. 4) You will fill in one blank (you may not fill in the same one you filled in on the previous paper) 5) Continue filling in blanks, thumb in the middle and passing to the left 6) You will have 3 minutes

Round Robin When time is up keep the paper you have. Begin with person number one. Read the question and answer to the first blank. If you all agree person #2 move to the next blank. If you do not agree discuss and come to a correct answer. Change any wrong answers. Continue until each blank has been checked.

3. Interaction We will have a ton of interaction in pairs and groups using Kagan and other group Strategies. It is VERY important that you… Respond quickly to the quite signal! Follow directions quickly!

Mix - Freeze The music will start and you will walk around the room and NOT talk When the music stops you find the closest person to you ( not your best friend) The topic will appear on the Smart Board You will have 30 sec to 1 min of think time. 4. Score Board Student Teacher
Day: If students have more points they get a purple stick. If teacher has more points they get a pink stick. Week: On Friday if students have more purple sticks than pink sticks they receive a reward. Quarter: Each purple stick is worth 10 points. Your class reward will depend on how many points you earn

Think about the scale – some will be worth 400 pts while others are worth 100 pts Jot Thought In your team bucket you have post-it notes. Divide them into four. You have 45 second of think time. What would you like your reward to be? (Remember there are different levels) You will SAY it and then WRITE it. as many ideas as you can in the amount of time. * One idea per slip of paper* Place each slip of paper in the center of the table. No slips are over lapped.

Person 4: Put Folders away for your team Put your tables folders away when the little bell rings

Setting up Your 3 Ring Binder
Timer (Set 10-min) Put your name on the spine of your folder (use Duct tape and a permanent marker.) 2. Put your pack of dividers in your folder Fill out two of them and put ALL of them in your 3 Ring Binder Your Name Second in 3 ring First in 3 ring Science Vocabulary Scientific Method

6. Folders Their will be a folder check after every unit/Test.
The folder check requires 2 things 1) Your work is in order (how we completed it) 2) Your work is complete ( if it is not complete your receive a zero) The cork board (by the computers) will have all the papers you need in order.

7. Daily Science Place the loose paper in the back of your binder.

Coaching Tip- Tip- Teach-Re Ask
When you are asked a question by your team mate – DO NOT tell them the answer. I want you to give them a TIP (hint). If they still do not understand give them a second TIP (hint). If they still do not understand re-teach the concept. Once you have re-taught the concept have them restate the question and answer to you. Check for understanding.

If you do not get done with class work it becomes If your homework does not come back the next school day you will call _________________ and a after school detention will be assigned for that day. As well as every day the homework is missing. homework home

9. Absent You have one day for everyday you missed to make up work
Your team cares about you so much that they are going to fill out an information sheet for you. The ABSENT sheet will be in the front of your folder. When you return you will need to go to the absent trays to find the work you need to make up. ( Refer to your absent sheet) *** If you missed Monday and Tuesday you will look in the tray labeled Monday and Tuesday. *** If you missed on a Friday and return the following week the work will no longer be in the weekly trays. It will be in the basket.

10. Academic Dishonesty If you get caught cheating (opinion of the teacher) you will get a zero on that assignment. I know it is tempting, I will do everything I can to remove the temptation!
