Intranet & Extranet An "intranet" is the generic term for a collection of private computer networks within an organization. An "extranet (Virtual Private Network )" is a computer network that allows controlled access from the outside for specific business or educational purposes. Extranet

Network Router A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP's network.
